"| am a fourth-generation Sioux Cityan and have been a small business owner for 13 years. Although I am not a gambler, I am very much in favor of Ho-Chunk, Inc., a local company, being granted the license for a land-based casino and hotel. I firmly believe that a Las Vegas-style establishment is not for us. We are not Las Vegas; we are Siouxland. On the surface, the Las Vegas style may look appealing, but down the road I believe that it would become quite tiresome.
First, our basic local heritage and history is that of the prairie, farming, barging, agriculture, Native Americans and pioneers. Second, it is just plain common sense that a local business with a proven, vested interest in our community be granted the license. In my opinion, Ho-Chunk, Inc. is Siouxland's best-kept secret. Ho-Chunk, Inc. is a major employer in our region. Many of their employees live in our tri-state Siouxland region, as do many of my customers. Ho-Chunk, Inc. recently purchased the iconic Terra Centre in Sioux City, a firm commitment to invest in the economic development of our area. Also, Ho-Chunk, Inc. purchases products and services from many Iowa companies."
