A new group called Enough Already WI! launched a campaign against off-reservation casinos.
Eleven tribes currently operate 24 gaming facilities. The group's rallying call is based on that number.
“Wisconsin has an abundance of gaming opportunities, with 24 casinos providing gaming opportunities within two hours of nearly every state resident,” Brian J. Nemoir, the group's executive director, said in a press release.
The group's site lists four off-reservation gaming locations: Kenosha, Beloit, Sheboygan and Shullsburg.
Of those, Kenosha, where the Menominee Nation wants to build a casino, and Beloit, where the Ho-Chunk Nation is looking, represent actual proposals before the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The Sokaogon Chippewa
Community was looking at Sheboygan but failed to reach an agreement with developers.
The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake
Superior Chippewa Indians is interested in Shullsburg but hadn't submitted a land-into-trust application as of last month.
