Leaders in two northwestern Colorado communities see off-reservation gaming as a way to boost the local economy.

The Ute Tribe of Utah is considering a casino near the town of Dinosaur. Officials there participated in a feasibility study on the project.

"I certainly see these as an option for economic diversity. I'm willing to look further to understand the impacts," said Moffat County Commissioner Audrey Danner told The Denver Post.

Meanwhile, the Sleeping Giant Group is proposing an off-reservation casino near Hayden. A tribal partner hasn't been named.

"This is about a group of people thinking we need to do something to create jobs and create growth. We really like the idea of diversifying the economy," Stefanus Nijsten, the chairman of the Hayden Economic Development Commission, told the paper.

The process for off-reservation gaming takes years to complete.
