Court asked to review Goshute waste proposal

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2003

The state of Utah and some members of the Skull Valley Goshute Tribe are asking a federal appeals court to halt plans to store up to 44,000 tons of nuclear waste on the reservation.

Federal regulators have not given the final approval to the site but have signed off on preliminary studies. The state opposes the site, which will be run by a group of private companies, and some tribal members are fighting it.
