In a shift, Utah lawmakers support a nuke site

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2003

Lawmakers in Utah have introduced a plan aimed at pre-empting the Skull Valley Goshute Tribe from storing nuclear waste on its reservation.

Dubbed "Plan B," the lawmakers want the state to study the feasibility of storing the waste on state lands. The issue would then go to the voters.

The tribe and its partners want to build a repository capable of accepting up to 44,000 tons of highly radioactive waste.
