Some in Utah seek alternative to tribe's waste plan
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2003
Fearing federal approval of a nuclear waste site on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation, some in Utah are advocating a "Plan B" to start a state-controlled repository.
The tribe wants to store up to 44,000 tons of waste, a plan opposed by many state politicians. Plan B proponents say a state-managed site will be more attractive but Gov. Mike Leavitt said he doesn't support it.
The tribe's private partners plan to stick to their plan.
