VIDEO: Peggy Flanagan promotes Kamala Harris and Tim Walz

"The future in Indian Country looks bright with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz," Peggy Flanagan says in a video promoting the Democratic candidates for president and vice president of the United States.

Flanagan, a citizen of the White Earth Nation, serves as lieutenant governor for Minnesota, where Walz serves as governor. She has played a prominent role as a surrogate for the Democratic presidential campaign due to her connections to the ticket.

"When Kamala Harris pledged her support loudly and proudly to protect tribal sovereignty and treaty rights, and her commitment to ensure that every Native child has an opportunity, I have never heard a candidate for president ever say that out loud," Flanagan says in a video posted on her social media channels on October 14, 2024. "It is a game changer."

"Native people have always been here, are still here, and will be here into the future," Flanagan says in the 42-second video, which was paid for by the Democratic presidential campaign.

The video is billed as a "conversation" with J.J. Abrams, a prominent Hollywood filmmaker, although he does not make an appearance in the clip. It follows a similarly-shot video posted ahead of the vice presidential debate on October 1, 2024, in which Flanagan describes Walz as "one of my best buddies."

Should Harris and Walz win the election on November 5, 2024, Flanagan would become governor of Minnesota. In rising to the position, she would be the first Native woman to serve as a state governor.
