(United States, via Zoom, July 28, 2024) — On Sunday night, nearly 2,000 Native Women and Two Spirits signed up for a national Zoom meeting to organize, fundraise, and share their enthusiasm for Kamala Harris’ ascent as likely Democratic nominee for President.

A dozen Native women leaders and activists, led by long-time Native advocate Holly Cook Macarro (Red Lake Ojibwe), pulled together the call in just forty-eight hours. Participants hailed from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, and represented over 300 Tribes or Indigenous communities. Over the course of an hour and 15 minutes, the call raised nearly $40,000 for Harris for President from over 340 new donors.

Actor and writer Jana Schmieding (Cheyenne River Lakota) hosted the call, which was joined by Rep. Sharice Davids (KS), Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, Minnesota State Rep. Liish Kozlowski, and Kansas State Rep. Christina Haswood. Deb Haaland was a surprise guest who shared her enthusiasm and endorsement of Vice President Harris’s candidacy. Other speakers included Jade Begay, Mellor Willie, Libby Washburn, Allie Young, and Mattea Twinn.
