Connecticut tribes continue looking at sites for potential casino

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe have eliminated one site from consideration for a potential new casino in Connecticut.

According to news reports, East Windsor is no longer in the running. The property there is no longer under the control of the developer so it wasn't possible to move forward, the tribes said.

The tribes originally planned to select a site last December but they are continuing to talk with officials and developers in East Hartford, Hartford and Windsor Locks. Four sites in those three towns are being considered for the casino, which is being pitched as a way to address competition from neighboring Massachusetts, where a $950 million commercial casino is being built just across the border.

Once the tribes pick a site, they will have to ask the Connecticut Legislature to authorize the casino.
