Little Traverse Bay Bands start construction on Class II facility

The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians of Michigan are expanding their gaming enterprise.

The tribe started construction on a modest Class II casino in Mackinaw City. The facility will feature electronic gaming machines, bingo and pull tabs and is expected to open in May. A 25-space recreational vehicle park is also in the works at the site.

The tribe originally wanted to offer Class III games but local officials voted against that. Revenues won't be shared with the community as a result.

Separately, the tribe will be building a 130-room hotel at the existing Odawa Casino Resort in Petoskey. The development is part of a five-year strategic plan that was approved last summer.
