Ho-Chunk Nation extends agreement for off-reservation casino

The Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin has extended an intergovernmental agreement for its proposed off-reservation casino.

The agreement calls on the tribe to share 2 percent of the net win from the casino in Beloit with the city. Of that amount, 30 percent will go to Rock County.

The tribe is still waiting on the Bureau of Indian Affairs to issue a draft environmental impact statement for the project. A notice was put out more than two years ago but President Jon Greendeer believes action is imminent. p>

"I believe we're going to see action on the federal level very soon,” Greendeer told local officials, The Janesville Gazette reported.

The tribe is pursuing the casino under the two-part determination provisions of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The law gives the state governor final say, assuming the BIA approves.
