Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll (R) resigned on Wednesday amid a probe into an Internet gambling operation to which she has ties.
Carroll's public relations company worked for Allied Veterans of the World, which state authorities say operated illegal gambling centers in the name of charity. Nearly 60 people are facing charges in connection with the operation. Slot machines are legal in parts of the state but the centers operate in a gray area of the law. As a state lawmaker, Carroll once filed a bill to make them legal. Gov. Rick Scott (R) has voiced caution about an expansion of gaming in the state. Get the Story:
