Seven groups submit $400K bid for casino in Massachusetts

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

So far, seven groups have submitted applications -- including a non-refundable $400,000 fee -- to compete for a casino in Massachusetts.

H.3702, the state's gaming law, authorizes three casinos in different regions of the state plus one slot machine parlor. The deadline to submit applications to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is 5pm today.

Bidders for the western Massachusetts casino include the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut and the Seminole Tribe of Florida, through its Hard Rock International.

The southeastern Massachusetts casino is not yet open for bidding because the law gives the first shot to "a federally recognized tribe." The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe anticipates gaining approval for the casino.
