The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin has revived plans for an off-reservation casino.
Tribal members voted 217-141 in favor of a casino in Shullsburg. The 92-acre site is about 300 miles from tribal headquarters. The Bush administration rejected the casino in January 2008 under a guidance memo that said Shullsburg was too far from the reservation to benefit tribal members. The Obama administration rescinded the memo. The tribe will resubmit an application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Get the Story:
