City retains law firm for Burns Paiute off-reservation casino bid
Wednesday, September 22, 2010
The city council in Ontario, Oregon, hired a law firm to negotiate with the Burns Paiute Tribe for an off-reservation casino.
The city hired Miller Nash should the tribe's proposal move forward. But The Ontario Argus Observer reported earlier this month that the tribe hadn't provided any information recently.
The tribe previously filed a land-into-trust application for a site in Ontario
in October 2006. The Bureau of Indian
Affairs stopped work on the application in January 2008, saying the tribe
failed to submit enough information.
