NLRB looks into alleged union misconduct at Mashantucket casino
Wednesday, August 18, 2010
The National Labor Relations Board is investigating alleged union misconduct at the casino owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal
Nation of Connecticut, The Norwich Bulletin reports.
The tribe says the United Food and Commercial
Workers coerced beverage employees into joining by making false claims about
jobs going to tribal members.
“The investigation is proceeding,” John Cotter, a regional NLRB administrator, told the Bulletin.
Other unions have organized at Foxwoods Resort Casino by following tribal law.
The UFCW followed federal law and the tribe is challenging the NLRB's authority on the reservation.
