Iowa governor sought money from groups seeking casino license
Tuesday, July 20, 2010
Iowa Gov. Chet Culver (D) is under investigation for soliciting donations from groups that were bidding for new casino licenses, The Des Moines Register reports.
Culver "personally" sought donations from two groups, the paper said. One group gave him $25,000.
The group that did not contribute was the Kehl's Lyon County Resort, which is under construction at a site near the South Dakota border. The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe opposes the casino.
However, Daniel Kehl contributed $25,000 to Culver in 2009. And three investors in the casino gave the governor a total of $6,000 last year.
