Principal Chief David Hill of Muscogee (Creek) Nation shared a photo of his great-grandfather Charley Coker on a July 22, 2020, post<\/a> on social media. Coker was a key aide to\u00a0Chitto Harjo<\/a>, a Creek leader who held the United States accountable to its nation-to-nation treaty promises.<\/p>\n

“I hold the spirit of these men in my heart today as we defend our victory in the Supreme Court,” Hill wrote in the post.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Supreme Court decision in McGirt v. Oklahoma<\/em> confirmed the continued existence of the Creek Reservation, which was promised to the tribe by treaty. Hill has vowed to resist any efforts that would undermine the tribe’s victory.<\/p>\n
