{"id":402,"date":"2020-07-20T14:51:58","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T18:51:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.indianz.com\/supremecourt\/?p=402"},"modified":"2020-07-20T14:56:48","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T18:56:48","slug":"cherokee-natino-chickasaw-nation-and-choctaw-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indianz.com\/z\/supremecourt\/2020\/07\/20\/cherokee-natino-chickasaw-nation-and-choctaw-nation\/","title":{"rendered":"Cherokee Nation, Chickasaw Nation and Choctaw Nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"m_8071630342001366340xxmsonormal\">The following is a July 20, 2020, statement from the leaders of the Cherokee, Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_8071630342001366340xxmsonormal\">\u201cThe leaders of the Cherokee, Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations have been, and continue to be, committed to discussing the parameters of the historic Supreme Court decision in the\u00a0<i>McGirt<\/i>\u00a0case.\u00a0 These leaders agree that any path forward requires strong collaboration between the Five Tribes.<u><\/u><u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_8071630342001366340xxmsonormal\">None of the leaders of the Five Tribes support eroding our sovereignty or turning back the recognition of our reservation achieved through <i>McGirt<\/i>. \u00a0We feel that the leaders of each tribe understand that we must be engaged with the state Attorney General and members of Oklahoma\u2019s Congressional delegation if we are to have a meaningful voice in any legislative process that moves forward as a result of <i>McGirt<\/i>.\u00a0 Above all, each leader has a responsibility to the citizens we represent to protect our sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_8071630342001366340xxmsonormal\"><u><\/u><u><\/u>Last week\u2019s statement of principles began a discussion with state and federal stakeholders.
