This is about providing much needed support to Alaska Native people and communities to fight COVID-19 and to repair and grow our economies. The ANCSA Regional Association (ARA) and the Alaska Native Village Corporation Association (ANVCA) are pleased by the U.S. District Court decision to uphold our organizations\u2019 right to intervene<\/a> in this case. We applaud the court for ensuring our voices are heard in a case that will clearly impact our Alaska Native people and communities. <\/p>\n

We believe it is imperative to preserve and protect the Indian Self Determination and Education Assistance Act <\/i>(ISDEAA) definition of \u2018Indian tribe\u2019, which includes Alaska Native corporations and has been acknowledged for decades. Changes to this definition would have unintended consequences, including lost support for rural Alaska villages and negative economic impact in Alaska.<\/p>\n
