{"id":523,"date":"2020-03-17T15:13:04","date_gmt":"2020-03-17T19:13:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.indianz.com\/covid19\/?p=523"},"modified":"2020-03-17T15:59:51","modified_gmt":"2020-03-17T19:59:51","slug":"indian-health-service-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indianz.com\/covid19\/2020\/03\/17\/indian-health-service-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian Health Service reports three #COVID19 cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On a conference call with members of the media on the afternoon of March 17, 2020, Michael Toedt, the chief medical officer for the\u00a0<span data-offset-key=\"6s87n-1-0\">Indian Health Service, confirmed three &#8220;presumptive positive&#8221; cases of\u00a0COVID-19 within IHS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to Toedt, the three cases are in the following areas of IHS:<\/p>\n<div>* Portland Area<\/div>\n<div>* Great Plains Area (Charles Mix County\/Yankton Sioux Tribe)<\/div>\n<div>* Navajo Area<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the Navajo Area case, Toedt declined to provide details, citing a need to protect patient privacy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The individual who tested positive was referred to a higher level of care and is with one of our partner institutions,&#8221; Toedt said on the call. &#8220;All contacts are being thoroughly investigated as appropriate testing is being done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When pressed for further details on the Navajo case, as well as the two others, Toedt would not confirm whether the cases occurred in reservation or urban settings.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To protect patient privacy, we are not going to identify where individuals live,&#8221; said Toedt.<\/p>\n<p>The media conference call concluded 3:50pm Eastern.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On a conference call with members of the media on the afternoon of March 17, 2020, Michael Toedt, the chief medical officer for the\u00a0Indian Health Service, confirmed three &#8220;presumptive positive&#8221; cases of\u00a0COVID-19 within IHS.
