With the release of a portion of the $8 billion coronavirus relief fund<\/a>, the Trump administration is finally carrying out a promise made to tribal governments by the United States over a month ago.<\/p>\n

While amounts paid to individual tribal nations most likely will not be disclosed to the public, aggregate amounts should be available through the Department of the Treasury.<\/p>\n

The Daily Treasury Statement<\/a>, in fact, already has a line item for the “Coronavirus Relief Fund.” As of May 1, nearly $140 billion has been distributed, which represents the amounts paid to states and local governments under the CARES Act.<\/p>\n

Tribal governments were also promised payments “not later than 30 days” after the CARES Act. That deadline passed last week but the money will start going out May 5, as announced by Treasury.<\/p>\n

According to the department, payments will hit tribal bank accounts “over several banking days.” <\/p>\n
