The Indian Health Service has updated its coronavirus testing data<\/a>, showing results as of 7pm on April 11, 2020.<\/p>\n According to the data, 11,818 have been tested within the IHS system. Of those, 985 are positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. That represents an increase of nearly 13 percent from the 875 cases previously reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n The three regions with the largest number of tests are the Navajo Area<\/a> (3,579), the Oklahoma City Area<\/a> (2,095 and the Billings Area<\/a> (1,523). Together these three areas serve more than 754,000 American Indians and Alaska Natives, according to 2014 data.<\/a><\/p>\n The two regions with the highest numbers of COVID-19 positive cases are the Navajo Area<\/a> (536) and the Albuquerque Area<\/a> (158). With 73 cases, the Oklahoma City Area comes in third.<\/p>\n “Data is reported from IHS, tribal, and urban Indian organization facilities, though reporting by tribal and urban programs is voluntary,” the agency states on its testing website. “This is a rapidly evolving situation and the IHS will provide updated information as it becomes available and is verified.”<\/p>\n
