Native Sun News Today<\/a> is temporarily suspending publication for 2 weeks in order to protect employees from the spread of the coronavirus in South Dakota, Editor Emeritus and Founder Tim Giago told Indianz.Com.<\/p>\n

Staff at the independent newspaper, located in Rapid City, worked hard to put together an issue this week. An update<\/a> posted on April 8, 2020, explains the gravity of the situation.<\/p>\n

“We skipped a couple of issues because we have folks with diabetes and other pre-existing conditions and we did not want to jeopardize their futures,” it reads.<\/p>\n

“We hope you enjoy this paper because it was published with a lot of duress on our staff,” the update continues. It’s titled: “Bracing for the worst of the coronavirus<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Giago, a citizen of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, is the father of modern Native journalism. His Lakota name is Nanwica Kciji \u2013 Stands Up For Them. He has always been a strong supporter of Native publications, including Indianz.Com.<\/p>\n
