{"id":2227,"date":"2020-04-06T10:56:46","date_gmt":"2020-04-06T14:56:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.indianz.com\/covid19\/?p=2227"},"modified":"2020-04-06T11:03:54","modified_gmt":"2020-04-06T15:03:54","slug":"gila-river-indian-community-arizona-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indianz.com\/covid19\/2020\/04\/06\/gila-river-indian-community-arizona-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Gila River Indian Community (Arizona)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/gilariver\/videos\/582555099014289\/<\/p>\n<p>In a somber <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/gilariver\/videos\/582555099014289\/\">video message<\/a>, Governor Stephen Roe Lewis of the Gila River Indian Community announced the first COVID-19 death within the tribe.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/gilariver\/photos\/pb.170324441415.-2207520000..\/10158516334726416\/?type=3&amp;theater\">press release<\/a>, the tribe said the Gila River citizen was a 53-year-old woman with &#8220;underlying health conditions.&#8221; She passed on after a &#8220;prolonged stay&#8221; in an intensive care unit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are witnessing the reality of the COVID-19 outbreak,&#8221; Lewis said in the release. In the video, the governor reminded community residents to stay home and follow social distancing guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>The Gila River Indian Community is located near Phoenix, Arizona.
