That represents an increase of 0.3 percent from the 197,889 cases reported by the IHS a week prior.

Altogether, 2,464,496 coronavirus tests have been administered within the IHS as of June 13. That represents an increase of 1.3 percent from the week prior.

Since mid-October of 2020, the IHS has been providing additional information about the spread of the coronavirus within the system. The cumulative percent positive column shows the historical COVID-19 infection rate, meaning the number of tests that have returned positive since the onset of the pandemic.

Based on the cumulative percent positive, the highest rates have been seen in three areas. Two of them include the state of Arizona, indicating a disproportionate toll of COVID-19 in the state:

Navajo Area — 14.9 percent

Phoenix Area — 13.0 percent

Oklahoma City Area — 11.9 percent

Source: Indian Health Service

The 7-day rolling average positivity column offers a more contemporary look at the impact of the coronavirus. The data shows where COVID-19 cases have been increasing recently.

Based on the 7-day rolling average positivity, two areas (out of 12 IHS areas) are seeing higher COVID-19 rates. They follow:

Tucson Area — 5.9 percent

California Area — 5.5 percent

Overall, 8.6 percent of IHS tests have been positive since the onset of the pandemic, the data shows. Meanwhile, the 7-day average stands at 1.8 percent.

The data, however, is incomplete. While 100 percent of facilities run directly by the IHS are reporting data, only 33 percent of tribally managed facilities and 44 percent of urban Indian organizations are doing the same, the agency has told Indianz.Com.

Beginning June 7, the IHS began updating its coronavirus data on a weekly basis. Previously, results were released every day.

COVID-19 Cases by IHS Area

Data are reported from IHS, tribal, and urban Indian organization facilities, though reporting by tribal and urban programs is voluntary. Data reflect cases reported to the IHS through 11:59 pm on June 13, 2021.

IHS Area

Tested

Positive

Negative

Cumulative

percent

positive *

7-day rolling

average

positivity *

Alaska

640,124

12,357

548,304

2.2%

0.7%

Albuquerque

98,777

8,278

69,426

10.7%

0.5%

Bemidji

174,526

11,947

159,264

7.0%

3.1%

Billings

102,740

7,505

91,955

7.5%

2.8%

California

87,230

8,296

75,389

9.9%

5.5%

Great Plains

148,893

14,427

133,950

9.7%

2.3%

Nashville

82,091

6,367

74,835

7.8%

1.9%

Navajo

264,790

32,367

184,506

14.9%

3.1%

Oklahoma City

521,634

61,361

455,501

11.9%

3.3%

Phoenix

188,306

24,370

163,352

13.0%

4.4%

Portland

127,300

8,390

118,512

6.6%

4.8%

Tucson

28,085

2,815

25,116

10.1%

5.9%

TOTAL

2,464,496

198,480

2,100,110

8.6%

1.8%

COVID-19 Testing Data will be updated weekly beginning on Monday, June 7, 2021.

Source: Indian Health Service (https://www.ihs.gov/coronavirus)

The Indian Health Service has updated its coronavirus data, showing 198,480 COVID-19 cases through June 13, 2021.

[7
137,14
post-13784","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-institutions","tag-hhs","tag-ihs
["GET
