19 new cases, 51,643 recoveries, and one death related to COVID-19 reported

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Friday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 19 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and one death. The total number of deaths is now 1,767. The report indicates that 51,643 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 522,892 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 53,556, including three delayed reported cases.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

* 22 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

The Navajo Nation remains in “yellow status,” in accordance with Public Health Emergency Order No. 2022-004 available online at: https://www.ndoh.navajo-nsn.gov/COVID-19

“We wish everyone a safe and Happy Mother’s Day, as families come together to celebrate and show their love and appreciation for our mothers, grandmothers, and caretakers. Please take precautions and be very careful as you celebrate. We do not want to experience another large surge in COVID-19 cases here on the Navajo Nation. Please be safe, get vaccinated, get a booster shot, and continue to pray for our people,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities on the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.

“Happy Mother’s Day and may God bless all of the mothers across the Navajo Nation. Please thank your parents for everything they continue to do for your family and loved ones and please do your best to keep them safe and healthy as we move forward through this pandemic. We are in this together and we must continue to take precautions and pray for our people and frontline workers,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
