78 new cases, 48,635 recoveries, and three deaths related to COVID-19
WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Thursday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 78 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and three deaths. The total number of deaths is now 1,629. The report indicates that 48,635 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 485,509 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 51,475, including 10 delayed reported cases.
Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:
- Chinle Service Unit: 9,750
- Crownpoint Service Unit: 4,989
- Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 5,302
- Gallup Service Unit: 8,652
- Kayenta Service Unit: 4,837
- Shiprock Service Unit: 9,479
- Tuba City Service Unit: 5,647
- Winslow Service Unit: 2,797
* 22 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.
On Thursday, the state of Arizona reported 7,379 new cases, the state of Utah reported 1,935 new cases, and New Mexico reported 1,837.
“If you feel sick or have symptoms related to COVID-19, do not go into public places and do your best to isolate yourself until you are able to get tested. Through contact tracing, they are finding that many of the new infections are due to family gatherings and those who travel off the Navajo Nation and return home with COVID-19. We have to remain diligent, keep taking precautions, wear masks, get vaccinated, and stay home as much as possible,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Health care facilities on the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.
“Our frontline workers are doing everything they can to fight for us and to save lives. Let’s do our part by practicing the safety measures recommended by our public health experts. Please take precautions, keep praying, and support each other,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
