WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Sunday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 89 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and one recent death. The total number of deaths is now 1,514. Due to technical issues, a full report will not be available until Monday.
On Sunday, the state of Arizona reported 3,086 new cases. The states of Utah and New Mexico will report their weekend case numbers on Monday. On Sunday, Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez visited the Indian Health Service COVID-19 vaccination site in Chinle, Ariz. to show his support for health care workers and families receiving the vaccines.
“A big thank you to all of the health care workers that worked through the weekend to administer COVID-19 vaccines and booster shots to children and families to help keep us all safe. COVID-19 numbers are high in our region and even higher in border towns and cities located off the Navajo Nation. Please be safe and keep praying for our frontline warriors, those recovering from the virus, and for our communities,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.
“Remain diligent and continue to support your loved ones. We are overcoming this pandemic one day at a time, but we must do more to protect ourselves and others. Please keep praying, taking precautions to keep yourself and others safe, and please check on your elders and those with underlying health conditions,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
