85 new cases, 33,039 recoveries, and no recent deaths related to COVID-19
WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Tuesday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 85 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no recent deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,464. The report indicates that 33,039 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 351,888 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 34,999, including two delayed reported cases.
Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:
- Chinle Service Unit: 6,292
- Crownpoint Service Unit: 3,405
- Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 4,107
- Gallup Service Unit: 5,655
- Kayenta Service Unit: 3,045
- Shiprock Service Unit: 5,989
- Tuba City Service Unit: 4,321
- Winslow Service Unit: 2,166
* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.
On Tuesday, the state of Arizona reported 5,660 new cases, which also includes weekend and Monday cases. Utah reported 1,343 cases and New Mexico reported 517 new cases.
“We know how to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our health care experts have provided us with the knowledge and guidance to keep ourselves safe, but it’s our responsibility to adhere to their guidance. Please continue to be very cautious in public and please get vaccinated. We are in this together and we are overcoming this pandemic one day at a time,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

“We have to meet our prayers half way by taking measures to keep ourselves and others safe and healthy. We have to remain diligent and continue to take precautions each and every day. Keep praying for our health care workers and all of our people,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
The Navajo Department of Health issued Public Health Emergency Order No. 2021-020, which allows holiday gatherings of 15 or fewer people, consistent with Navajo Health Command Operations Center’s guidelines.
