OKCIC provides free COVID-19 vaccines to local community
Oklahoma City Indian Clinic provides COVID-19 vaccines at public vaccine outreach events this month.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit clinic providing health and wellness services to American Indians in central Oklahoma, provides COVID-19 vaccines at no cost to everyone, including those who are not American Indian.
In August, OKCIC will be participating in numerous vaccine outreach events. During the first event, OKCIC will be offering the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine during the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association Trade Show at the Oklahoma City Convention Center on August 17 and 18, 2021. Anyone 18 and older can be vaccinated at the event, and this vaccine only requires one dose.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be available on August 19, 2021, at the Latino Community Development Agency from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Anyone 12 and older can receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination, which requires two doses.
“The effects of COVID-19 can be serious, and it’s important that everyone is vaccinated,” said Robyn Sunday-Allen, OKCIC’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are providing free COVID-19 vaccinations to everyone 12 and older who wants it.”
There have been recent outbreaks of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Oklahoma. The Delta variant is classified as a variant of concern by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which means it has increased transmissibility and the potential for more disease severity.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has confirmed that all three vaccines approved for use in the United States are effective against the Delta variant.
“The pandemic isn’t over,” Sunday-Allen said. “It’s still important to get vaccinated and take safety precautions.
Appointments are not required to get vaccinated at any of the vaccine outreach events.
OKCIC is also providing free COVID-19 vaccinations on-site Monday through Friday, and eligible people will receive a $50 gift card after completing their vaccination series. The incentive is available for the general public.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available by appointment only for those 12 and up. Call (405) 595-3100 option 2 for questions and to make an appointment.
Walk-ins are available for the Janssen one-shot vaccine from 9 – 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Walk-in vaccinations are available at the pharmacy located at 4913 W. Reno Ave.
