6 new cases, 29,694 recoveries, and no recent deaths related to COVID-19
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Friday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported six new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no recent deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,364. The report indicates that 29,694 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 285,723 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 31,160.
Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:
- Chinle Service Unit: 5,650
- Crownpoint Service Unit: 2,989
- Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 3,692
- Gallup Service Unit: 4,942
- Kayenta Service Unit: 2,765
- Shiprock Service Unit: 5,306
- Tuba City Service Unit: 3,802
- Winslow Service Unit: 1,995
* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.
On Friday, the state of Arizona reported 1,251 new cases, Utah reported 669 new cases, and New Mexico reported 188 cases.
“Mask up, get vaccinated, and continue to take precautions to protect yourselves and others from COVID-19 and the Delta variant. The states of Arizona and Utah are reporting surges in new infections, mostly among people who are not vaccinated for COVID-19. We are in this fight against this virus together, so please think of others and think of your loved ones. Wear a mask in public, even off of the Navajo Nation. We have to get more of our people fully vaccinated as well,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines during drive-thru events or by appointment. If you would like to receive the vaccine, please contact your health care provider for more information for your Service Unit.
“Community immunity is our goal here on the Navajo Nation. If you know someone who isn’t vaccinated, please do your best to encourage them to get vaccinated. We have to do more to protect our communities from the Delta variant. Please be safe and keep praying,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
