22 new cases, 29,682 recoveries, and one more death related to COVID-19
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Wednesday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 22 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and one more death. The total number of deaths is now 1,364, including one delayed reported death. The report indicates that 29,682 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 285,723 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 31,154.
Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:
- Chinle Service Unit: 5,649
- Crownpoint Service Unit: 2,988
- Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 3,691
- Gallup Service Unit: 4,942
- Kayenta Service Unit: 2,763
- Shiprock Service Unit: 5,305
- Tuba City Service Unit: 3,802
- Winslow Service Unit: 1,995
* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.
On Thursday, the state of Arizona reported 1,014 new cases, Utah reported 693 new cases, and New Mexico reported 155 cases.
“We know how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Vaccines and masks work. If you haven’t been fully vaccinated, please do so. The data across the country shows that the large majority of new infections and deaths are those who are not vaccinated. The vaccines are highly effective against COVID-19 and the variants. We have to remember that our individual choices and actions have consequences and can impact the lives of others, so please take precautions if you travel or go out into public. Wear a mask wherever you go in public, even off of the Navajo Nation. To our visitors and tourists, please respect our public health orders and wear a mask if you come to the Navajo Nation. We are in this together, so let’s support each other,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines during drive-thru events or by appointment. If you would like to receive the vaccine, please contact your health care provider for more information for your Service Unit.
“Please continue to take safety measures and do your best to protect yourselves. We have several cases of the Delta variant in our communities, so please continue to wear a mask in public. Individual responsibility is key to reducing the spread of the variants, so please be safe and continue to pray,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
