On Wednesday, the state of Arizona reported 1,945 new cases that includes a backlog of cases from the previous two days. Utah reported 572 new cases, and New Mexico reported 180 cases.

“Our contact tracers indicate that some of the new cases are directly related to travel off the Navajo Nation, in which individuals attended large public events in large cities then returned home and spread the virus to their family members. We have to do better and keep pushing back on COVID-19 and Delta variant by getting more of our people fully vaccinated and wearing masks in public. Our health care workers are fighting for us every day, so think of them and their families who are making sacrifices to save lives. We are in this together and we have to continue to fight back against the variants,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines during drive-thru events or by appointment. If you would like to receive the vaccine, please contact your health care provider for more information for your Service Unit.

“Our vaccination rate is nearly 70-percent among the 12 and up population, but we have to continue to encourage our loved ones to get vaccinated if they haven’t already. Our health care workers are doing their best to fight for us. So, please continue to take precautions, be safe, and keep praying for our people,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
