Nez-Lizer to host online town hall for the Child Tax Credit
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer, in partnership with the Navajo Nation Washington Office and White House officials, will host an online town hall on Wednesday, July 7th at 6:00 p.m. (MDT) on the Nez-Lizer Facebook page and YouTube channel to provide information regarding the federal Child Tax Credit, which was included in the American Rescue Plan Act that was signed into law by President Biden in March.
The American Rescue Plan Act increased the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 per child to $3,000 per child for children over the age of six and from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under the age of six, and raised the age limit from 16 to 17. All working families will receive the full child tax credit if they make up to $150,000 for a couple or $112,500 for a family with a single parent.
“The pandemic has brought on many challenges and financial burden for many of our Navajo families and the Child Tax Credit will provide some financial relief. Millions of families are expected to receive the first Child Tax Credit payment on July 15th. The online town hall on Wednesday will provide more information on the process of payments and eligibility,” said President Nez.
The following provisions are included under the Child Tax Credit:
- All working families will get the full credit if they make up to $150,000 for a couple or $112,500 for a family with a single parent (head of household).
- The Child Tax Credit has been expanded to $3,000 per child 6-17 years old and $3,600 per child under 6.
- Starting on July 15, 2021 and through the rest of the calendar year, payments will be monthly (via direct deposit for 80% of families and through the mail for the others) – at $250 per child between 6-17 or $300 per child under 6
- Low-income families with children are eligible for this crucial tax relief – including those who have not made enough money to be required to file taxes. If a couple makes under $24,800, a head of household makes under $18,650, or a single filer makes under $12,400, and they have not filed their taxes, there is a simple, easy tool to sign up for the Child Tax Credit.

The online town hall will be held on Wednesday, July 7th at 6:00 p.m. (MDT) on the Nez-Lizer Facebook page and YouTube channel and will be aired on local radio stations later this week.
