COVID-19 cases are trending downward in the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians following the holiday season.
The Wisconsin-based tribe saw 7 active cases last week, according to the latest issue of Odaawaa-Zaaga’iganing Babaamaajimoo-mazina’igaans, the tribe’s newspaper. That’s down from 18 active cases earlier this month.
The tribe is currently administering the COVID-19 vaccine to medical and emergency personnel and essential workers, according to the newspaper. Elders over the age of 75 are also in line for the vaccine.
Sawyer County has seen a total of 17 COVID-19 deaths, four of them from the tribal community, the paper reported.
