The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is extending its shutdown order amid a rise in COVID-19 cases in South Dakota, President Rodney Bordeaux announced on October 28, 2020.
In a video message, Bordeaux said cases continue to rise on the reservation and in neighboring areas. He cited 573 positive diagnoses, of which 161 are considered “active.”
“Our people have been responsible relatives because we know that our most cherished and vulnerable tribal members are at risk of acquiring this deadly virus,” Bordeaux said. “We need to protect them.”
The shutdown order will continue through December 31, Bordeaux said.
