President Donald Trump

In a post on social media at 12:54am Eastern on October 2, 2020, President Donald Trump announced he tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. He also said First Lady Melania Trump tested positive.

The announcements came after Hope Hicks, an aide at the White House, tested positive for COVID-19. She works closely with the president.

Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate for president, wished a “swift recovery” for the Trumps, who said they will be in quarantine for an undisclosed amount of time.
