1 new case, 7,154 recoveries, and no recent deaths related to COVID-19
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Monday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported one new COVID-19 positive case for the Navajo Nation and no recent deaths. The total number of deaths remains 523 as previously reported on Sunday. Reports indicate that 7,154 individuals have recovered from COVID-19 and 97,214 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 9,901.
Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:
- Chinle Service Unit: 2,340
- Crownpoint Service Unit: 815
- Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 938
- Gallup Service Unit: 1,579
- Kayenta Service Unit: 1,313
- Shiprock Service Unit: 1,503
- Tuba City Service Unit: 941
- Winslow Service Unit: 466
* Six residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.
The Navajo Nation will have another 32-hour partial weekend lockdown beginning on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at 9:00 p.m. until Monday, Sept. 14 at 5:00 a.m. (MDT) to help control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the Navajo Nation. On Monday, the state of Utah reported 373 new cases of COVID-19, the state of Arizona reported 198 new cases, and New Mexico reported 46.
“Only one reported case of COVID-19 today is great news, but we have to be smart and not let up against this virus. This is the result of the great work of our health care experts combined with the tremendous efforts of our Navajo people. We are hopeful that we will not see another spike after the Labor Day weekend, but we won’t know for several days. Please continue to wear your masks, wash your hands, practice social distancing, staying home as much as possible, and avoiding large crowds. The flu season is near so let’s not let down and let’s keep fighting this virus together. Flu shots will soon be available,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
On Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. (MDT), the Nez-Lizer Administration will host an online town hall on the Nez-Lizer Facebook page to provide updates on COVID-19 response efforts and the 2020 Census.
“Please continue to help our frontline workers fight the COVID-19 pandemic. We are not out of the woods yet. Please remember that we are still awaiting a safe vaccine and that we must keep our guard up, especially with the flu season around the corner. If we continue to do what we are doing in the next several months, we believe we can minimize the impacts of the flu season as well. Keep praying and keep listening to our health care experts,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
