FUKRY (2019, 90min., USA) A screwball stoner rom-com set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the film follows Ching Yazzie, a longboard craftsman, and Dawn Wilson, an aspiring performance artist set on moving to northern California for a “mime residency.” When Ching expresses his love for Dawn, burdened by the heavy emotions she pukes on him—this catapults into Dawn leaving and propelling Ching into a spiraling descent. Through the course of a long weekend involving punk rock shows, a gallery opening and some comic fighting, the characters discover their real feelings.
Award-winning director, editor, and producer Blackhorse Lowe (Navajo) is known for narrative films set on the Navajo reservation that explore the pull between Navajo tradition and contemporary non-Navajo ways. Lowe has screened at First Peoples Festival in Montréal, Marin County International Festival, Tribeca, Sundance Film Festival and imagineNATIVE, where he received two Honorable Mentions. Blackhorse is a 2019 Tulsa Artist Fellowship.
