Miniature Therapy Horses Visit Senior Care Facility
Scottsdale, AZ – Members of the Piestewa Peak Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), resumed therapy visits with miniature horses from Tender Little Hearts Mini Tales and Equine Mini Therapy, starting with the Fountain View Village Senior Living facility in Fountain Hills, AZ. The horses brought cheer to the residents as activities resumed on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 during the COVID-10 pandemic.
Tender Little Hearts is a non-profit organization that strives to bring emotional therapy visits to those who might benefit from the interaction with a therapy animal. Extra barrier precautions and social distancing measures were in place at the senior facility. For the safety of the senior residents, interaction with the miniature horses included a limited contact visit within an outdoor courtyard area, with one resident per mini horse at a time. Masks and gloves were worn by each resident.
The visit is another way that the Piestewa Peak Chapter continues to lend a helping hand during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of May15th the chapter had sewn and donated 1800 masks and 1000 other items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout Arizona, including donating masks to the Fountain View Village Senior Living facility to share with staff and residents.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War.
With nearly 185,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations.
