Ho-Chunk Nation COVID-19 State of Emergency Orders and Guidelines Remain in Effect
May 15, 2020
In response to the Wisconsin Supreme Court decision to reverse the Wisconsin Safer at Home order, issued by Governor Tony Evers, The Ho-Chunk Nation would like to clarify that the Tribe’s adopted Resolution 03-31-20 D, Executive and Administrative Orders, issued by the President, will remain in effect until modified, rescinded, or until further notice.
As a Sovereign Nation, President Marlon WhiteEagle issued Administrative Order Mar. 13, 2020-1, which declared a state of emergency. In the first of its kind, the Ho-Chunk Nation Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch worked together to create a joint document urging the tribal membership to stay safer at home. The President decided to keep the Ho-Chunk people safe and keep his March 31, 2020-1 Administrative Order enacted.
The Ho-Chunk Nation continues to monitor this pandemic and looks to its Department of Health for information, and follows recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
It is important to continue practicing social distancing, avoiding gatherings of more than 10 people, washing your hands for 20 seconds, leaving your house for only essential needs, wearing a face mask, and making sure you are doing everything you can to help stop the spread of the virus. With businesses opening, the community may appear to be back to normal, however, we urge you to continue the guidelines put in place to keep the Ho-Chunk people safe.
The Executive Branch is working vigilantly to ensure we safely reopen our casinos and recover from what this virus has done to our communities.
Care for one another, from a distance. We are encouraged with the cooperation with the guidelines put forth by the tribe and how the membership is abiding with the public health guidelines. By doing this we are slowing down the spread of COVID-19.
