The Indian Health Service has updated its coronavirus testing data, showing results as of 11:59pm Eastern on April 28, 2020.
According to the data, 31,707 tests have been administered within the IHS system. Of those, 3,212 have returned positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. That represents a 3.4 percent increase from the 3,106 cases previously reported.
Overall, the number of administered tests increased by 9.7 percent between April 27 and April 28. That’s a higher growth rate than was seen over the weekend, when the data indicated a lull in testing.
Still, the data continues to show disparities in Indian Country. The Bemidji Area, which serves more than 110,000 American Indians and Alaska Natives, and the Tucson Area, which serves nearly 27,000, have yet to break the 1,000-test milestone.
“Data is reported from IHS, tribal, and urban Indian organization facilities, though reporting by tribal and urban programs is voluntary,” the IHS states on its website.
