DAR’s Piestewa Peak Chapter Sewing Masks for Healthcare and Essential Workers

DAR Members Nationwide Respond to
COVID-19 Health Crisis by Giving Back to their Local Communities

Scottsdale, Arizona – The Piestewa Peak Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is lending a helping hand to healthcare and other essential workers on the front lines of the pandemic, ensuring that metro-Phoenix’s residents and facilities have more protective wear resources to face the threat of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Several members of the Piestewa Peak Chapter responded to the medical mask shortage by hand-sewing masks to donate to local essential workers in the most need.

As of April 10, 2020, the Piestewa Peak Chapter of Scottsdale, AZ has sewn and donated 608 masks to the Arizona State Veteran Home, various health care and veterinary offices, and to others in need including elderly neighbors and family members. The chapter’s total of 608 masks represents over half of the total made by members of all Arizona’s 41 DAR chapters combined.

“We know these are tough times for everyone, with most of us staying home to help stop the spread of this virus,” said Chapter Regent Judy Taylor of the Piestewa Peak Chapter. “However, we have several chapter members working in healthcare related fields and we wanted to do whatever we could to help take care of them, their coworkers, and others on the front line of this health crisis.”

Nationwide, DAR chapters from all 50 states have been participating in the organization’s Service to America From Home initiative with more than 70,000 masks already being donated and tens of thousands more produced every day to be distributed in local communities.  Visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/ServiceToAmerica/ for up-to-date totals for the nationwide mask effort.
