Governor Val Panteah of the Pueblo of Zuni reported another increase in coronavirus cases within the community on April 5, 2020.
In a post on social media, Panteah said a total of 7 people within the New Mexico-based tribe have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. That’s a quick rise in cases from the first one that was reported a week ago.
“In addition to urging everyone to practice all the precautions, I am asking the patients and families of the confirmed patients to adhere to the instructions provided by the hospital,” Panteah said in the post. “Do not go anywhere and do not have physical contact with other family members that do not live with you. Don’t allow children to play with other children. It is your responsibility to protect your family and other community people.”
Zuni is close to the Ramah Chapter of the Navajo Nation, where six cases have been confirmed as of April 3. It’s also near Gallup, which is considered a hotspot for the coronavirus in the state.
Both Zuni and Ramah fall within the Albuquerque Area of the Indian Health Service.
