The Tohono O’odham Nation has confirmed the first two COVID-19 cases within the tribe.
A March 29, 2020, press release said a citizen who lives off the reservation, in Tuscon, Arizona, tested positive.
A March 31 release said a citizen on the reservation is positive.
“We urge community members to adhere to the stay at home executive order directing nation residents to remain at home except for essential errands, medical care, and food shopping,” Chairman Ned Norris, Jr., said in the latest release. “Together, we can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection by staying inside, keeping at least six feet from others, avoiding all gatherings, and washing hands frequently with soap and water.”
The Tohono O’odham Nation is located on the southern U.S. border with Mexico. The reservation includes 62 miles of international border, with citizens on both sides of the line.
