In a video message on March 25, 2020, Governor Stephen Roe Lewis of the Gila River Indian Community updated the tribe on coronavirus efforts. He said no new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed on the reservation in Arizona, following the first two that emerged earlier this week.
Dr. Anthony Santiago, interim chief executive officer and chief medical officer of Gila River Health Care, said the tribe has conducted 130 tests. So far, 64 results have returned negative and two have been negative. Results are awaited from the remaining tests.
