She cited growing caseloads, particularly in the northern part of the state, home to the <a href=https:\/\/www.navajo-nsn.gov\/>Navajo Nation<\/a> and other tribes.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;The criminal filings in northern Arizona increased 13 percent between 2016 and 2019, and the civil case filings increased 21 percent during that same period,&#8221; Humetewa told the subcommittee in <a href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/26\/dianehumtewa022421.pdf\">written testimony<\/a>. &#8220;The two largest contributors to the federal case load in northern Arizona are the multiple reservations across the region and Grand Canyon National Park.&#8221;\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nHumetewa was <a href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2014\/01\/06\/obama-resubmits-nomination-of.asp\">nominated to the federal bench<\/a> by former president Barack Obama.
