The proceeding will be live-streamed on <a href=https:\/\/youtu.be\/Pr4OAQ8gb08>YouTube<\/a> and on <a href=https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NRDems\/posts\/5148266911914410>Facebook<\/a>.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nThe committee is chaired by <a href=\"https:\/\/grijalva.house.gov\/\">Rep. Ra\u00fal Grijalva<\/a> (D-Arizona). He took over the panel during the 116th Congress, when Democrats gained control of the House.\r\n<P><\/p>\r\n&#8220;With Democrats in charge, we spent the 116th Congress listening to the American people and turning their ideas into law, especially on climate change and protecting our environment,&#8221; Grijalva said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/15\/housecommitteeonnaturalresources.pdf\">report outlining the committee&#8217;s achievements<\/a>. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;We\u2019ve helped build a public movement behind environmental justice and other issues that desperately need to be elevated, and we\u2019ve changed the tone of Congress by focusing on impacted communities, economic justice, and the perspective of Native American tribes, residents of the U.S. territories, and other typically marginalized people,&#8221; added Grijalva.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-pdfemb-pdf-embedder-viewer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/15\/housecommitteeonnaturalresources.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"\" data-width=\"max\" data-height=\"max\" data-toolbar=\"both\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"on\">housecommitteeonnaturalresources<\/a><\/div>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nThe achievements include the enactment of <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/09\/24\/savannas-act-s-227-116th-congress-mmiw\/>Savanna\u2019s Act<\/a> and the <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/09\/24\/s-982-not-invisible-act-116th-congress-mmiw-mmip-notinvisible\/>Not Invisible Act<\/a>. The two bills, which <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/10\/12\/a-historic-day-mmiw-legislation-finally-signed-into-law\/>became law last October<\/a>, address the crisis of missing and murdered Native Americans, especially women and girls.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;In the 116th Congress, the committee held the first ever House hearing to address the silent crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and review the historic failure on this issue by the Trump administration,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/15\/housecommitteeonnaturalresources.pdf\">Resources at Work report<\/a>, released on Friday, stated.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n &#8220;The hearing featured four Native American women as expert witnesses, who testified that Congress and federal agencies have not honored their trust responsibilities to Native communities and that stopping the epidemic of violence against Native women will take time and resources not currently being offered,&#8221; the report continued.\r\n<P><\/P><div class=\"mt-1 mb-1\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8411603009680747\" data-ad-slot=\"6394965691\"><\/ins><script>(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/div><p><\/p>\r\nDuring the prior session of Congress, Democrats created the <a href=https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/subcommittees\/subcommittee-for-indigenous-peoples-of-the-united-states>Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States<\/a> to focus on issues affecting tribes, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians. The subcommittee is being led by <a href=https:\/\/rubengallego.house.gov\/>Rep. Ruben Gallego<\/a> (D-Arizona) and counts two citizens of the <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/02\/01\/native-women-land-prominent-roles-on-key-congressional-committee\/>Tohono O\u2019odham Nation<\/a> in leadership and policy staffing roles.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nAdditionally,  <a href=https:\/\/haaland.house.gov\/>Rep. Deb Haaland<\/a> (D-New Mexico), a citizen of the <a href=https:\/\/www.lagunapueblo-nsn.gov\/>Pueblo of Laguna<\/a> and one of the <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2019\/01\/04\/native-women-make-history-congress.asp>first two Native women to serve in Congress<\/a>, served as vice chair of the full committee in the 116th Congress. She has since been nominated to be <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/12\/19\/i-am-honored-and-ready-to-serve-deb-haaland-and-the-joe-biden-administration\/>Secretary of the Interior in President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nOver in the <a href=https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/>U.S. Senate<\/a>, the <a href=https:\/\/indian.senate.gov\/>Senate Committee on Indian Affairs<\/a> met for the <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/02\/10\/senate-committee-on-indian-affairs-meets-under-new-leadership\/>first time<\/a> last Thursday. The <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/02\/11\/senate-committee-on-indian-affairs-organizational-business-meeting\/>organizational meeting<\/a> saw <a href=https:\/\/www.schatz.senate.gov\/>Sen. Brian Schatz<\/a> (D-Hawaii)  selected as chair and <a href=https:\/\/www.murkowski.senate.gov\/>Sen.
