Photo: <a href=https:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/miheco\/2837155243\/>miheco<\/a><\/figcaption>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">House Committee on Natural Resources schedules markup on tribal homelands bill<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Tuesday, June 9, 2026<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source\">Indianz.Com<\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/\">House Committee on Natural Resources<\/a> is taking up four bills at a  markup session, including one of interest in Indian Country.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nOne of the bills on the agenda for the markup on Wednesday morning is   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/3925\">H.R.3925<\/a>, the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation Land Exchange Act. The bill authorizes a land exchange between the federal government and the <a href=https:\/\/sanmanuel-nsn.gov>Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n The tribe would receive about 1,475 of federal forest land  in southern California while the United States would receive about 1,460 acres. Joe Maarango, a council leader from the tribe, testified in support of the legislation, citing a lack of certainty within the executive branch.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;We have invested more than $5 million and many hours into this exchange and we would like to see\r\nit completed,&#8221; Maarango stated in written testimony.
